The Nethker Fire remains 98 percent contained this morning and is still 2,355 acres in size.

A significant cold front will approach the fire area today and move through this evening with potential wind gust 30 to 50 mph. Max temperatures of 76 to 81 degrees and minimum relative humidity at 24 to 29 percent. Haines index of 5 today. This weather system will likely cause some burning inside the fire perimeter, and smoke will likely increase today. Firefighters continue to work the hot spots on the fire, but the fire is not expected to grow outside current containment lines. Aviation resources remain assigned and will be used as needed to assist ground base firefighters in preventing flare-ups from causing spot fires.

If members of the public see fire activity, there is no need to call it in as we have firefighters and aviation resources that are continuing to work on the fire.

The perimeter of the fire that is not contained is primarily in a wet marshy area where it is difficult to get firefighters into, and difficult to establish a secured fire line. The moisture in that area is helping to hold the fire within the perimeter. Crews are also repairing suppression lines with guidance from resource advisers to reduce the impact to natural resources.

A local Type 3 incident management team is managing the fire with the Incident Command Post located at the Burgdorf Guard Station.

Updated Area Closure – Nethker Fire Version #3, August 20, 2019

Jeanette Campground, Burgdorf Guard Station and all trails leading into the burned area remain closed. The new closure order reduces the closed area to only the perimeter of the fire. Please stay out of the burned area of the fire, and stay on the main roads while traveling through the burned area. Drive carefully as firefighters and aviation resources are still working in the area.
